i can't believe i still know the date
the house show that we had months before ian sold all the gold
no more scurrow playing my guitar

that was around the same time
i liked to lay in my bed all day
but "liked" isn't the right word to describe it
i was bound by fate
some shit just has to happen, right?

i'm back in the old room
you know i tried
but then i failed
afternoons were gone too soon
how could we tell?

this is an ode to the house
at this point i'm pretty sure it is
i still remember the smell of diet pepper
getting spilled on the cords wrapping 'round us as we set it off

perfection just ain't no fun
there's lots of things that don't matter here
though i admire all the documentation ian made
while we played in the back room, watching from the loft

i'm back in the old room
